Scalo di Porta Romana – Milan, Italy

Completion from 2025

Covivio, Coima SGR and Prada Holding S.p.A won the tender called in 2020 by FS Sistemi Urbani Srl and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana SpA for the purchase and subsequent regeneration of the disused railway yard of Scalo di Porta Romana, located in the southern part of Milan. The operation will allow a regeneration inspired by the principles of sustainability, reconnecting the southern area of Milan with a large park and creating a new mixed-use district. The area covers a surface of about 190,000 m² and it will host the Olympic Village for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Reshaping the city

The project will significantly contribute to the development of the city of Milan. The goal is to create a new metropolitan area with a unique mix of uses and the ability to offer new forms of connection, innovation and sustainability. The initiative will have a strong capacity to improve the liveability and inclusiveness of the entire neighbourhood, as done with Symbiosis and Vitae, Covivio’s important developments already present in this part of the city.

Different skills for a shared goal

The regeneration of the Porta Romana Railway Yard sees Coima SGR, Covivio and Prada Holding S.p.A. synergistically combine their skills in one of the greatest urban planning challenges of the next decades for Milan. The decision to undertake this important path together mainly derives from the strong bond that the three companies have with the city of Milan and from the common desire to continue investing in its future sustainable growth.
